Founders Day, the anniversary of the formation of National PTA in 1897, is a reminder of the substantial role that PTA has played locally, regionally, and nationally in supporting parent involvement and working on behalf of all children and families. It's a time to reflect and take pride in our many accomplishments, and to renew our commitment to be a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for parents, and a strong advocate for public education.

LISD Council of PTAs hosts its annual Founder’s Day Dinner to honor past and present recipients of the Texas PTA Life Member, National PTA Life Member and/or Extended Service Awards.

2008 Founder's Day Invitation & Registration
Date:  Thursday, February 28, 2008
Time:  7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Place:  Marriott DFW Airport North

  • Reservation/payment due February 20, 2008
  • More information available at the January Council Meeting
  • Invitations go out to all past honorees and local PTA units after Winter Break

It’s time to start…

  • forming your local unit Life Member Committee – check your bylaws and standing rules for more information.
  • amending your budget and/or standing rules if they do not already allow for you to purchase dinner tickets for your honoree(s) or executive officers to attend
  • planning how your local unit will present the awards to your honoree(s)

Remember

  • Check your bylaws and/or standing rules for information on selecting and honoring your lifetime member honorees.

  • Check your PTA’s arrangements to verify who and how many guests your PTA purchases tickets for.

Please confirm with your local PTA who is the point of contact and who is responsible for Founder’s Day correspondence and for making Founder’s Day reservations. Please forward material as necessary. If you have any questions or would like to be on the committee, please contact me.

Life Membership Information

  1. It is an honor to be a recipient of a Texas PTA Life Membership. 

  2. Check your Bylaws and/or Standing rules for detailed information on selecting and recognizing your honorees (i.e., committee).  If your PTA does not have any guidelines or procedures, now would be a good time to establish some as you will find them useful in the future.

  3. Refer to your membership list for a list of your past honorees. 

  4. If you would like to know if someone has been previously honored, by your PTA or another, please let me know and I will check for you. 

  5. PTA does not limit the number of awards a person may receive. 

  6. Select your honorees. 

  7. Complete and send necessary forms and proper payment to Texas PTA for the following awards:

  • Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership

  • National PTA Life Achievement Award

  • Texas PTA Extended Service Award

Application/order forms for each award type may be found in your President’s Texas PTA Handbook, Resources/Forms Section pp. 249-251, or visit the Texas PTA website at http://www.txpta.org in the member site/PTA Forms/Awards-Scholarships.  One certificate will be received per recipient request.  Pins are optional and can be ordered as indicated on the order form(s).  Please let me know if you need help locating the forms.

  1. Each PTA should have a process for announcing and/or presenting recipients with their certificates and/or pins (i.e., General PTA Meeting, Founder’s Day dinner, or both, etc.). 

  2. Each PTA should have details on how many tickets your PTA purchases for guests to attend the Founder’s Day dinner.  Remember to include your new honoree.
