(Paraphrased from 'The Purpose Driven Life', by
Rick Warren)
Every parent seeks the “perfect” gift for their child
for Christmas.
What is the “perfect” gift? Is it an X-Box, I-Pod or a
doll that wets her pants and your carpet too? I think
not! The best, most perfect gifts can’t be bought at
the local mall! The best most perfect gifts are found
in our hearts and they are priceless.
The gift of your presence: You, the gift of you.
Sometimes your presence rather than presents are what
they need and truly desire. That time spent together
will certainly out last and out weigh the impact of an
X-Box, I-Pod or even a baby doll with an
uncontrollable bladder.
The gift of acceptance: Everyone craves acceptance. We
never outgrow this or get enough of it. When we give
our children the opportunity to be what and who they
were uniquely created to be and become we have given
them wings to fly. What a gift?
The gift of your guidance: Children were given parents
for a reason. They desperately need adults to teach
them how they should live. They will take this with
them forever. They can avoid a lot of unnecessary pain
from your experiences. Share!
The gift of your correction: Sometimes the only way to
learn is by making mistakes. Love them enough to let
them fail! Sometimes the consequences of a bad choice
can be all that a child needs to learn life’s most
valuable lessons. Correction is love in action.
Let there be no doubt, a parent’s love will never go
out of style or be out grown. With your presence,
guidance and correction you are giving your child the
most priceless, perfect gift of all: the gift of love.
Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

Our Reflections program has gone very smoothly. Every
campus Chairman has worked hard to get their students'
work in for judging, even with the weather working
just as hard against us. With a hectic and rather iffy
Thursday turn-in, we still had everything in hand for
judging on Saturday. You all are awesome!
We had 685 individual entries arrive at the Council
level. There are still a few groups of work out for
judging, but by December 10th, it'll all be back here.
In the remaining days before the reception, there is
still a lot to do!
- we'll send invitations to the students whose work is
going on to Area.
- we'll send a list of students and their achievement
levels to campus Chairmen, but I'm betting they'll
keep that list pretty close to their chests!
- campus Chairmen will make sure every student who
participated knows they are welcome at the reception.
While they won't be called up front individually, they
will be recognized for their efforts.
- Awards and certificates will be ordered, and we hope
they'll arrive in time to be personalized for the
kids.
The Council Reception will be Sunday afternoon,
January 7, at 2PM. The way the Area judging
schedule is falling, we will have our top works
available to show off at that reception, along with
every other piece we can squeeze onto the walls. Every
single entry is incredible, and I want everyone to get
a chance to see as many as possible.
After January 7, it will be time to talk about
Reflections 2007-2008! Time is surely flying!
Yours,
Carolle

Hello All and Happy Holidays! If you are trying
desperately to think of a great gift for someone, you
might want to consider making a charity donation in
their name. The choices are endless and it’s a great
way to spread that holiday spirit! Having trouble
deciding on a charity? Try this website:
http://www.c haritynavigator.org On another note,
many of us who have children with special needs have
read this short piece, but since it’s the Holiday
Season, I thought it might be something enjoyable for
everyone to read if you’ve never seen it. Enjoy!
"Welcome to Holland" by Emily Pearl Kingsley
I am often asked to describe the experiences of
raising a child with a disability - to try to help
people who have not shared that unique experience to
understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like
this...
When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a
fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of
guidebooks and make your wonderful plans. The
Coliseum, the Michelangelo David, the gondolas in
Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian.
It's all very exciting.
After months of eager anticipation, the day finally
arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several
hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes and
says, "Welcome to Holland."
"Holland?" you say, "What do you mean, Holland? I
signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All
my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."
But, there's been a change in the flight plan. They've
landed in Holland and there you must stay.
The important thing is that they haven't taken you to
a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of
pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different
place.
So you must go out and buy new guidebooks. And you
must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a
whole new group of people you would never have met.
It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than
Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been
there for a while and you catch your breath, you look
around, and you begin to notice that Holland has
windmills, Holland has tulips, Holland even has
Rembrandt's.
But everyone you know is busy coming and going from
Italy, and they're all bragging about what a wonderful
time they had there. And for the rest of your life,
you will say, "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go.
That's what I had planned."
The pain of that will never, ever, ever go away,
because the loss of that dream is a very significant
loss.
But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you
didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy
the very special, the very lovely things about
Holland.

This is the season for giving, and Rapid-Med in
Highland Village is giving back to the community by
collecting items for
PediPlace-- beanie babies or other small stuffed
animals, coloring and activity books and band aids.
PediPlace is a nonprofit medical clinic located in
Lewisville. PediPlace relies on donations from the
community to accomplish its mission of providing
quality healthcare to children 0-18 years of age who
would otherwise not receive care due to the family's
economic situation.
Rapid- Med Urgent Care Center, a new addition to
the area, offers urgent care, family care and
occupational medicine including worker's comp
injuries. Headed by board certified husband and wife
team, Drs. John and Rebecca Gomez, Rapid-Med is
excited about becoming involved in the community and
supporting the efforts of PediPlace.
Donations can be dropped off at Rapid-Med, 2940 FM 407
